Wouldn’t it be great if you could have better sex just by eating the right foods? Well, if you know the foods to choose, you can do just that.

Your diet affects every level of your health from how well your heart functions to how clearly you think to how good you feel. It should come as no surprise that your diet can affect your sex drive. If you know what you’re doing, you can improve it.

The first step to boosting your sex drive with food is to make sure that you are eating well, for good overall health.

The basic guidelines that I recommend for good eating run a little contrary to the conventional wisdom. First, I don’t recommend a low-fat diet. Getting about 30% of your calories from fat a day will make sure that your body has what it needs to make steroidal hormones. These are the hormones that you need to enhance your sex drive.

I do strongly recommend that you cut out refined grains and processed foods. These will cause your blood sugar levels to go haywire. They’ll make you feel tired, fat, and sluggish, and clearly that’s not how you want to feel in the bedroom.

I recommend that you snack on fresh fruits and vegetables as well as nuts and seeds. These foods give you slow-burning carbohydrates that will keep your energy levels up. They also give you plenty of fiber. Fiber keeps you feeling regular. When you’re regular, you feel better and have more energy. (Good regularity will also cut down on embarrassing moments both in and out of the bedroom.)

Okay, so enough with the general guidelines. I know what you’re really after is the specific foods that can give your sex drive an immediate boost.

Foods That Will Light a Fire Under Your Sex Drive

Foods that are high in zinc can help enhance your sexual performance and your level of sexual desire. (Often men with sexual dysfunction are deficient in this important mineral.) Some good sources of zinc that you’ll find in your kitchen include oysters and oats.

Oatmeal is a good way to start the day if you want to end it on a high note. It’s a whole grain loaded with fiber, high in protein, and packed with zinc. Oysters have a well-earned reputation as an aphrodisiac—at least when it comes to enhancing a man’s sex drive.

Foods that have a warming quality can also boost arousal. Ginger and cayenne pepper are two of my favorite seasonings to enhance desire. They also enhance circulation, which can lead to a better performance. Cayenne pepper is a versatile spice that can add some pep to just about any dish. Ginger isn’t quite as versatile, but it does make a very tasty tea.

Finally, I recommend that couples indulge in sensuous foods together. Chocolate. Berries. Champagne. In moderation, they can also enhance the mood and make your night more memorable.

Stay well,
