The other day I had to give a patient the sad news that he has diabetes. This happens far too often anymore, as incidence of the disease keeps climbing.
Fortunately, I’ve discovered that diabetes doesn’t have to be the life sentence that people believe it is. You can regain control of your blood sugar levels even after you’ve been diagnosed with diabetes.
Adult onset diabetes is a complicated condition. It’s the result of poor dietary and lifestyle habits. These bad habits trigger frequent blood sugar spikes in your system. Your body responds by over-producing insulin. This creates a vicious cycle that leaves you with high blood sugar and insulin resistance… that means your body no longer uses insulin as well as it’s supposed to.
This cycle ultimately results in diabetes.
But, by giving your body the tools it needs to manage blood sugar and insulin you can break this cycle. Once you do, you can begin to restore your blood sugar and insulin levels to normal.
Three Simple Nutrients to Lower Your Blood Sugar and Improve Your Insulin Sensitivity
There are many ways to prevent diabetes or to disrupt the diabetic cycle of high blood sugar and insulin. You can begin exercising more. You can begin eating more protein, vegetables, and nuts and less refined grains and sugars. You can learn more about how to prevent, manage, or even reverse diabetes by downloading our free report.
No matter what approach you take, you will have better results if you supplement with chromium, vanadium, and alpha lipoic acid.
Chromium is a trace mineral that your body uses to breakdown carbohydrates and other nutrients. Research shows that people with diabetes who take chromium are better able to control their blood sugar levels.
In one study, people with difficulty managing diabetes began taking chromium and biotin in addition to their normal diabetes medicine. After 90 days their blood sugar levels were compared with a group taking a placebo along with normal diabetes medicine. On average the fasting blood glucose levels of the group taking chromium was 10 mg/dL lower than those in the placebo group—this is a significant drop in blood glucose levels.
For the best results, take 500 mcg of chromium three times a day and 2 mg of biotin each day.
Vanadium is another trace mineral. In your body it works like insulin, moving sugar from your blood into your cells where it gets converted to energy. In animal studies, vanadium has lowered both the sugar and fat levels present in the blood of diabetic subjects. The remarkable thing is that it has done so even in animals that has no insulin in their systems at all.
Research shows that vanadium can have a similar affect in humans, lowering insulin resistance after just two weeks of supplementing with vanadium.
Take 500 mcg of Vanadium three times a day to prevent, manage, and improve your diabetes. High levels of vanadium can cause toxicity, so do not take more than 10 mg in a single day.
Alpha Lipoic Acid is a powerful antioxidant that benefits people with diabetes in a number of ways. One of the dangers you face when your blood sugar and insulin get on the diabetic roller coaster is nerve damage in your extremities. Alpha lipoic acid is proven to protect against nerve damage from diabetes.
Alpha Lipoic Acid also improves insulin sensitivity, returning it to virtually normal levels, after just 4 weeks.
If you are not yet diabetic and want to prevent diabetes, take 100 mg of alpha lipoic acid twice a day. If you are already living with diabetes, take 600 mg twice a day for four weeks, then begin taking 100 mg twice a day thereafter.
By taking these three blood sugar balancing supplements, you can give your body an extra hand in maintaining the proper balance between blood sugar and insulin. You can prevent diabetes before it starts or dramatically improve your condition if you already have diabetes and high glucose levels.
